July 2018 Dividend Update

Dividend Growth Blog Personal Finance Investing Winnipeg Jordan Maas

Summer is half over, and it’s been a busy one for us….

Personal Highlights for July:

  • The kids have had a busy summer.  The new daycare is going great, they’ve had multiple outings to the zoo, strawberry picking, the beach and ice cream.
  • Cabin is listed for sale.  Looking forward to using some of the proceeds to top up TFSA’s and the rest doing some renovations around the house.
  • July was the 2nd highest traffic to the website ever
  • The World Cup was great, watched a lot of soccer, saw some great games, and now we can focus on Holland & Canada qualifying for the next one!
  • Harvested some of the garden. So far we’ve been able to use cucumbers, beets & dill.  The peas, beans and zucchini look like they are just about ready too!
  • Hosted a birthday party for the in-laws.  We had about 40 people over for a barbeque  & drinks.  It was the hottest day in 80 years, but a great time was had by all.
  • Isaac got his 2nd haircut.  See the before & after below:

  • Cracked $500 in passive income for 3rd time in 2018.

    • Hey Rob

Thanks man – as you know – gotta enjoy the summers, because they dont last long…so it’s been busy but fun!

Loving Algonquin, it’s been one of my best stocks the last few years.

  2. Looks like $500 each month is becoming a regular occurrence, Jordan. Outstanding!
Good luck with the cabin sale… hopefully it all goes smoothly.

    • Definitely getting close to a consistent 500 a month…the 220 each month from the Canadian Equity fund helps with that…

When I inevitably switch over my work RRSP to dividend payers, I am hoping to get it closer to 1k a month consistently.

  3. Cute haircut. Your son is going to have all the ladies after him. I need a haircut this week, but they don’t help my looks much. Tom

Is all your portfolio invested in dividend stocks?
Good luck with the cottage. I sold mine a few years ago and I am glad I did, even if it was nice to go once in a while.

    • My portfolio is not all in dividend stocks. In fact about half the total portfolio is in a fund that doesn’t pay any distributions/dividends at all. I will eventually switch it over to either a monthly or yearly paying fund, but right now the overall gains have been solid enough.

If those funds were in the same fund as my Canadian Equity Fund, it would add another 440 a month in dividends, which would be nice…but income isn’t my primary goal right now.

  5. Thanks for sharing your early retirement portfolio progress, Jordan! $545.18 in dividend income is more than I’ll earn this year in total. You posted some nice year over year dividend and portfolio growth too. It’s awesome to see what my portfolio could look like years down the road. Thanks for the motivation!
