If you know me, or have followed this blog for a while, you would know I am a bit of a cocktail enthusiast. Although I’ve always been a fan of consuming different libations, more recently I’ve been getting very interested in the craft of mixing drinks as well.
As of yesterday, it is officially “Negroni Week”. This is a week long celebration of the classic drink, which many establishments, and people create their take on a Negroni, or a classic Negroni, and raise money for some great causes. Last year over $500,000 was raised! You can read more about the origin of the drink,on the Wiki page HERE.
Although I am 1 day late to the party- due to some medication for my sprained back, I decided one cocktail today would be okay. For those unaware, a traditional Negroni, would be (usually) equal parts, Gin, Campari & Sweet Vermouth.
Today I wanted to try something a little bit different. Lately I’ve been enjoying Whiskey Sour’s and a few other drinks that involve egg whites. I saw a few people creating different versions of the Negroni, with egg white, so I thought i would give it a shot as well.
I present the Negroni Fizz.
Much like the classic Negroni, this drink involves: Gin, Campari & Vermouth, however I decided to add fresh grapefruit juice, fresh lemon juice and an egg white.
1.5 oz Gin
.75 oz Campari
.75 oz Sweet Vermouth
.5 oz Lemon Juice
.5 oz Grapefruit Juice
1 egg white
Add all ingredients to mixing glass and dry shake for 30 seconds. Add ice and shake again for 30 seconds. Fine strain into coupe and enjoy. Feel free to play around with the proportions, or swap out the Campari for Aperol as well 🙂
I have to say it was very refreshing, and on a hot summer day, I think i’d prefer it over a classic Negroni. That said, it’s hard to beat the classic on most other occasions.
I’ll be adding this to my BAR page, and probably a few other variations before the week ends.
